Kalonzo-Sifuna Ticket Leads Opposition Poll as Kindiki Tops Running Mate Pick

July 14, 2026

A new Infotrak survey has identified a preferred opposition presidential ticket pairing Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna ahead of the next General Election.

The poll found that 23% of respondents backed a Kalonzo–Sifuna ticket, ranking it ahead of other opposition pairings included in the survey.

Infotrak reported that the second most popular option was a Kalonzo–Fred Matiang’i ticket, which won 16% support. It edged out a Fred Matiang’i–Kalonzo Musyoka combination, which attracted 15%.

The results suggest that Kalonzo remains the main figure in preferred opposition alliances, with the top two ticket choices both naming him as the presidential candidate.

A Kalonzo–Rigathi Gachagua ticket ranked fourth with 5% support, while a Rigathi Gachagua–Kalonzo Musyoka pairing received 4%.

Infotrak reported that other opposition combinations also attracted 4% support each, including Rigathi Gachagua–Fred Matiang’i, Fred Matiang’i–Rigathi Gachagua, and a Fred Matiang’i–Martha Karua alliance. A Kalonzo Musyoka–Martha Karua ticket received 3%.

Even with these options on offer, no single opposition ticket captured majority backing. The poll found that 21% of respondents either said they were undecided or did not know which team would best represent the opposition.

Infotrak said the results point to an opposition field that still looks unsettled, despite Kalonzo-led formations holding a clear edge over rival groupings.

Kindiki Opens Huge Lead as Ruto’s Preferred Running Mate

The survey also showed that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki remains the preferred choice to deputize President William Ruto in a broad-based government.

In that running mate contest, Kindiki led by a wide margin, with 34% of respondents naming him as their top pick. However, the poll also revealed significant uncertainty among Kenyans, with 37% saying they were either undecided or did not know who should be Ruto’s running mate.

Kindiki’s position put him well ahead of Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, who placed second with 11% support. Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga followed in third with 5%, while former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho recorded 4%. Former Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru garnered 3%, and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula each received 2%.

Other respondents spread their support more thinly, with Kisii Governor Simba Arati getting 1%. Leaders including National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale attracted less than 1% each.

The survey involved 3,000 adults sampled across all 47 counties and ran between June 22 and June 26, 2026. Infotrak collected the data using mixed-mode methods, combining Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) and Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI). It reported a 99% response rate and a margin of error of ±1.79 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.

Infotrak added that Kindiki stood out as the only named contender to surpass the 20% mark, giving him what the firm described as a commanding lead over the rest of the field.
