Muthaiga woman in court for scalding husband’s face over money

April 14, 2023

A woman who allegedly scalded her husband’s face with an acidic chemical has been charged with assault.

Ann Njambi, 53, is accused of unlawfully assaulting and causing actual bodily harm to Anthony Mwangi in their house at Balozi estate in Muthaiga North, Nairobi on April 1.

The court heard that Mwangi was leaving the bathroom at around 8am when Njambi allegedly threw the chemical substance on his face while demanding money.

Mwangi escaped to safety outside the house and called police officers who arrived at the house and arrested Ms Njambi. They took her to the Muthaiga police station as Mwangi proceeded to hospital for treatment.

At the health facility, doctors told Mwangi that he had been splashed with a suspected poisonous chemical.

During police investigations, the complainant claimed his wife had been threatening him for the past three years.

The two are said to be locked in a dispute since 2017 over a property they co-own within Kiambu County.

The businesswoman on her part told police that she was demanding money from her husband after he sold her car.

Appearing before Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti of Makadara Law Courts, Njambi denied assault charges.

The court released her on a cash bail of Sh15,000. The case will be mentioned on May 17 before the hearing starts on September 14.
