Gospel Singer Dishon Mirugi Claims Pastor Died By Suicide in his House

March 21, 2023

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has taken over investigations into the death of pastor Elizabeth Wanjiru Githinji, who died in unclear circumstances at the home of Kikuyu gospel musician Mirugi Dishon(born Paul Mathenge Wanderi).

A report by Inooro TV indicated that Ms Wanjiru, 38, had paid the musician a visit at his Kahawa West home on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

Mirugi Dishon recorded a statement at Kiamumbi police station saying the pastor was his ex-lover and had brought his suit from Nakuru.

He told the officers that when she arrived at his house, she decided to clean his house and his clothes.

Dishon further claimed that when she was cleaning, he left the house to run errands on Thika Road.

The singer added that he returned home soon after when he couldn’t reach Ms Wanjiru on her phone.

Mirugi said when he returned home, he discovered Wanjiru in his wardrobe, appearing to have hung herself with a bedsheet.

“He rushed back to the house in Maziwa Sub Location Kamuthi Location and found her hanging from the frame of his wardrobe,” the report read in part.

The singer told police that he untied the body and rushed to Jacaranda Maternity Hospital, where he was turned away because Ms Wanjiru was already dead.

Doctors advised him to go to the police, but officers at the Kasarani Police Station, Kiamumbi police station, and Kahawa West police station refused to pick up the body.

The officers said he should have called the police first before moving the body.

After spending hours with the body, Dishon was allowed to take it to the Kenyatta University Hospital mortuary.

The singer returned to Kasarani police station on Sunday to record a statement accompanied by DCI homicide detectives.
