Nine Nigerian nationals escaped death by a whisker on Sunday evening after locals in Thika town, Kiambu County accused them of witchcraft.
The foreigners were found in the Kangokii area of Makongeni in Thika while performing what residents thought were witchcraft rituals.
The suspicious mob descended on the Nigerians and started beating them up in a rowdy commotion that attracted the attention of other members of the public.
Fortunately, police officers on patrol saw the commotion and rushed to the rescue of the nine Nigerians. The officers took them to Ama Health Centre for medical treatment.
The victims denied the witchcraft claims saying they were praying.
They were transferred to Thika Level Five Hospital for further treatment in stable condition but nursing serious injuries.
