Police in Homa Bay are holding a woman after she reportedly burnt her son’s hands for stealing food from the neighbour’s house at Shauri-Yako estate within Homa-Bay town.
Reports indicate that the boy was playing with his three siblings when he sneaked into the neighbour’s house and stole fried liver.
The neighbour’s child is said to have spotted him and reported him. When word reached the boy’s mother, the 23-year-old woman allegedly tied his hands with manila rope and set it on fire.
Confirming the incident, Homa-Bay township assistant chief Salim Nyauke said neighbours rescued the child after hearing him scream.
The boy was rushed to Homa-Bay County Referral Hospital where he was admitted with serious burns on his fingers.
Nyauke said the woman was arrested pending arraignment in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
