A 23-year-old man died under mysterious circumstances inside a bus that was traveling from Mombasa to Homa Bay County on Tuesday night.
According to a report by Citizen Digital, the deceased Elisha Wanyonyi was traveling to his rural home in Ndhiwa constituency with his wife and their two children.
One of the passengers, identified as Eric Guoma, said they left Mombasa at 2 pm but upon reaching Mtito Andei, Elisha requested the driver to stop.
Elisha alighted, went to the bathroom, and when he returned to his seat, he seemed distressed as he kept shifting in his seat, Guoma said.
The man’s wife realised that Elisha was not well when he started complaining of chest pain and difficulty breathing. The wife pleaded with the conductor to stop the bus at the nearest hospital but she was ignored and they proceeded with the journey.
It was not until they arrived at Kisii town that they realised Elisha had died.
Confirming the incident, Homa Bay Sub County police boss Sammy Koskey said the wife revealed that her husband had been living with asthma.
The police boss said the driver of the bus drove to Homa Bay Police Station where they removed the body from the vehicle.
The body was taken to the Homa Bay County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
