A woman reportedly committed suicide by drowning herself in Lake Victoria for misplacing Sh50,000 belonging to the church.
According to a report by Citizen Digital, fishermen retrieved the body of Mary Aoko Odhiambo from Lake Victoria on Wednesday.
Ramogi Sub-Location Chief Gordon Opundo said the deceased 67-year-old woman had been restless the previous evening for losing the money.
She left her house at around midnight and didn’t tell her husband where she was going.
Members of the public launched a search and recovered the woman’s phone and clothes at Wath-K’opondo beach. They found her body stuck in a fishing net a few meters from the lakeshore.
The body was moved to Bondo Sub-County hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem as investigations continue.
