The old adage – ‘A fool and his money are soon parted’ – became a real-life testimony for a Nairobi-based cop who was hopeful of a steamy threesome only to lose about Sh450,000.
Police Officer Arthur Gakuya from Vigilance House was anything but vigilant when he met two women – Peninah Afandi and Everlyne Asendi at Jambo Grill, Thika Road on August 11.
He had just left Juja where he had gone to inspect a construction site for his house when he decided to make a stopover at the restaurant for a meal.
At Jambo Grill, he met the two ladies, with Ms Afandi, in particular, making eyes at him and pretending to know him. Charmed by Afandi, the Afande bought them Sh980 worth of beers and set the stage for an unforgettable evening of pleasure.
The trio then left Jambo Grill and took a taxi to the Nairobi CBD where they continued to drink at the Eureka club on Tom Mboya Street.
‘He Asked For A Threesome’
The ladies said the officer asked for a threesome and they duly agreed, reports the Star.
Unfortunately, Gakuya had run out of cash. Not one to let a threesome opportunity go to waste, the officer told the ladies he needed to withdraw some cash to cater for the rest of the evening.
Ms Afandi called a cab, Gakuya took the taxi and proceeded to withdraw Sh10,000 from an ATM and returned to the bar. At the club, he met the ladies, the cab driver Mr Patrick Kihara Munyinyi and another man, who forced him to get in the cab with them.
After a few metres, they pulled out a gun on him, took the Sh10,000 he had withdrawn, his ATM cards and their respective pin numbers.
Ms Afandi was sent to confirm whether the PIN numbers were genuine and indeed they were.
Drugged and Dumped
The criminals then drove Gakuya towards Kenyatta National Hospital and forced him to drink until he blacked out. They dumped him by the road in Kileleshwa where he regained consciousness and took a bodaboda home.
Ms Afandi and Asendi withdrew Sh60,000 from his two bank accounts and went on a shopping spree at a supermarket in Donholm area where they bought high-end household electronics and expensive bedding. They spent Sh384,000 using Gakuya’s ATM card.
It was Asendi who confessed everything in a statement to the DCI, including how they hired a lorry to ferry the items to their homes, and how they shared the money.
Detectives recovered all the proceeds of crime from the women’s homes in Kayole and Umoja. CCTV footage at the ATM booths and supermarket was also recovered.
The women were charged at Milimani law court on Monday with administering stupefying drugs to Gakuya with intent to steal. They were also charged with stealing a grand total of about Sh454,000.
Taxi driver Patrick Kihara Munyinyi was also charged with theft. They all denied the charges and were released on Sh300,000 cash bail.
The trial starts on September 25.
Police are still looking for the fourth accomplice who was not identified from CCTV footage at ATMs or a supermarket.
