Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has found his ‘own Matiang’i’.
In a move similar to the one instituted by President Uhuru when he ‘promoted’ Interior CS Fred Matiang’i to ‘super’ CS, Sonko has appointed Charles Kerich as ‘Super CEC’.
Kerich, who was appointed as the CEC for Finance only two months ago, will supervise the 10 sectors of the Nairobi county government by implementing and coordinating programmes.
Sonko, in an executive order on Monday, said it was necessary for him to appoint someone for proper discharge of the executive authority across the county.
Kerich’s new role includes receiving reports from all CECs and providing supervisory leadership throughout the delivery cycle of all county government projects.
The former journalist is also required to monitor and evaluate the follow up mechanisms for resources allocated to all sectors and priority programme and projects to ensure proper utilization of the targeted outcomes.
“He will oversee the implementation and communication of all county government projects and any other function ancillary to the above as may be directed by the governor,” stated the order.
Additionally, Kerich will also present accurate and timely progress to Sonko and any other function ancillary to the above as may be directed by the governor.
Kerich has served as CEC in four departments; ICT, Lands, Health and Finance.
