A Nairobi-based lawyer who wants Governor Sonko removed from office has been fined Sh5,000.
This is after the case which was to be heard on Wednesday was adjourned yet again. The petitioner, Boniface Nyamu, through his lawyer told the court that he was unwell.
But High Court Judge James Makau said the application for adjournment is unjustifiable. He adjourned the case to August saying it is a very serious matter.
Boniface Nyamu, an advocate of the High Court, wants Sonko removed on several grounds including claims he made on Citizen TV’s popular JKL show that he smoked bhang.
Nyamu also cites Sonko’s habit of posting ‘insulting’ messages on his social media platforms and verbally assaulting a member of the Nairobi County Assembly.
In his petition, Nyamu also accuses Sonko of recording private phone calls and refusing to nominate a deputy governor.
“When we were electing the Governor, we elected him alongside his deputy governor in consideration that they would complement each other in terms of politics and development but immediately the respondent was sworn in, he started frustrating his deputy until the Deputy governor resigned,” argues the lawyer.
According to the petitioner, since Sonko was elected, he has “reneged on all his promises and is totally clueless on what is happening in the city.”
