Senior Nyeri Magistrate Pauline Chesang’ will spend more weeks behind bars after she was denied bail in a case where she is accused of killing her husband Robert Chesang.
Machakos Court judge David Kimei on Thursday directed police to remand Ms. Chesang at Athi River Police Station.
Justice Kimei further recused himself from the case, saying the matter will now be heard under a trial court in Machakos under Justice George Odunga where all the accused persons in the murder case will also be presented.
Robert Chesang, a lawyer, was shot dead by gunmen at his Lukenya home in Machakos County on February 17th, 2019.
According to police, Mr. Chesang was alone when he was accosted and tortured before being killed, adding that seven spent cartridges of an AK47 rifle were recovered at the scene.
His wife, who is suspected to have hired the men to kill him, was arrested and charged alongside three others. They include retired National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer Laurence Metayo Lempesi, police constable Peter Muendo Mbithi and Alex Wanyonyi Wanyama.
Hearing of the matter has been set for May 29, 2019.
