A 55-year-old man on Tuesday morning succumbed to injuries after he was assaulted by his sons on Monday night following a domestic quarrel with his wife.

Patrick Khalabai from Sindani village, Bungoma County, is said to have returned home drunk at around 9 pm on Monday and differed with his wife over conjugal rights.

Neighbours said the couple lived under the same roof but would sleep on different beds due to unresolved differences.

On the night of the incident, the woman reportedly screamed attracting the attention of her sons aged 28 and 25, who were also in the house at the time.

When the boys broke into their parents’ bedroom, they found their mother still screaming saying the man wanted to rape her. The three of them then descended on the man and attacked him with crude weapons, including a panga.

The trio then left the house before returning in the morning when they found the man in critical condition and rushed him to a nearby hospital on a motorcycle.

He was, however, pronounced dead on arrival.

Neighbours, who spoke to Citizen Digital, said the couple lived under the same roof but would sleep on different beds due to unresolved differences.

Angry residents stormed the homestead threatening to lynch the trio but police officers from Kimilili arrived on time and arrested the woman together with one of her sons.

A manhunt has been launched for the other as investigations continue.
