Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has made a sensational claim that the female menstrual cycle is a blessing from God.
The first-time lawmaker was speaking on Thursday during the launch of the free sanitary pads program at Donholm Primary School.
The program is in line with the basic Education Amendment Act which places the responsibility of providing free, sufficient and quality sanitary towels on the government in order to reduce the number of girls missing school during their menstrual cycle.
While addressing the young school girls at the event, Babu emphasized the importance of fighting the stigma associated with periods.
“To our children and our ladies, we know that periods is a blessing from God. Do not treat periods as a stigmatization process in your life,” said Babu.
He continued, “This is a blessing from God that clears your system…therefore, you need not be ashamed of it. Whenever you start your periods, you need to discuss with your parents. Do not be ashamed.”
