January 5, 2018

First-time member of parliament Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino has disclosed his plans for this year 2018.

The Embakasi East MP’s plans are mainly focused on improving the welfare of the young people in the country.

The former university student leader, who is one of the youthful legislators in the 12th Parliament, has vowed to sponsor two bills; one on youth and women empowerment and the other on education.

“This year, as a youthful legislator, I will be sponsoring two Bills in parliament,” said Babu.

Disclosing his plans yesterday, Babu Owino pledged to draft a bill seeking to ensure the youth and women get access to government credit through a subsidised fee and without much restrictions.

“The collateral required to access the loans should be reviewed as it has locked some people deserving youth and women who are unable to meet the set requirement.”

His second bill will push for an increment in the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) cash to all college and university students.

“This will enable students who pass in secondary school education get a chance to pursue higher education,” said Owino.

Babu also disclosed plans to initiate legislation to push for a waiver on medical bills for patients in all public hospitals.

” I also plan to lobby colleagues to support my legislation to push for a waiver on medical bills, to ensure hospitals do not withhold bodies over fee arrears,” Owino said.

And for constituents of Embakasi East, Babu said: “I will liaise with the county government to improve access by constructing and building roads and provision of clean water.

“I will also strive to ensure bursaries’ issued through the National Government Constituency Development Fund reach the needy students.”

Babu’s plans left his social media followers impressed and upbeat about the new year.
