As the August polls edge closer, aspiring leaders are going to great lengths in an attempt to woo voters. Some lengths, however, are just downright desperate.

Siaya County Governor Cornel Rasanga has been caught on video pleading with some of his supporters to re-elect him because he would be broke and hopeless if he lost.

In a short video shared on the internet, Rasanga who sounded desolate is heard saying: “What I’ve been telling people by the way..if I don’t get back to the office I will be bankrupt and a very hopeless person.”

Rasanga will be battling out against Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo whose pockets are well lined.

Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo has also thrown his weight behind Gumbo with the duo working together to oust Rasanga.

The embattled governor won the primaries in Siaya in an exercise that was not deemed to be free and fair. He was also recently booed in front of party leader Raila Odinga in Siaya.
