Police have arrested two suspects for stealing three crocodiles at a Malindi farm in Kilifi County.

Yeri Yaa and Vincent Mwadori, who work at the crocodile farm belonging to Mark Stephen, were arrested Tuesday while trying to sneak the reptiles from the farm.

Malindi Police boss Matawa Muchangi said the suspects aged 32 and 31, had concealed the crocodiles in sacks but one crocodile died due of suffocation.

Muchangi said the farm owner alerted police after hearing movements in his backyard, and upon replaying CCTV footage, Stephen saw the experienced crocodile handlers making away with the three crocodiles aged three years at around 5 pm.

“Police arrived at the scene and found the suspects had not yet taken off with the crocodiles. They will be arraigned today (Wednesday, June 7) on theft charges,” said Muchangi.

It is believed the suspects were planning to sell the crocodiles.
