It’s no secret that the month is tough.

January is generally considered the ‘Monday’ of the year, only worse because of the low cashflow. After having a time of their lives in December, many Kenyans are coming back to the reality of harsh economic times.

Those who did not plan well are having trouble paying rent, eating fancy food, buying data bundles and basically anything that involves money.

At around this time, loan services like MShwari and KCB M-Pesa are flooded with requests. Those who already have uncleared debts on these platforms are all over Play Store searching for any money lending app they don’t already owe money.

One lady noticed something in her flat, and I’m sure it’s the same almost everywhere.

As you can see, nearly every Kenya Power meter is demanding units.
