KCSE results were released yesterday and once again students who did well were paraded in front of TV cameras.
The script has been similar for many years. When the excelling students are interviewed, they all mention big courses. Talk of Medicine, Engineering, Law, Pilot etc.
However, the reality on the ground is usually quite different, and some of them end up dropping out of these courses for various reasons.
Yesterday, we saw a refreshing case of a straight A student talking of a traditionally ‘low energy and lightweight’ course.
It’s promising to see bright kids break ties with older generations on what they consider important courses. Passion should be the guiding principle not society.
