stateState House officials have been negotiating with people to avoid misleading Kenyans on social media.
Apparently somebody has been running First Lady Margaret Kenyatta’s Parody account on Twitter. Officials approached the person and requested them to delete the account.
The officials are also trying to stop people from creating more fake accounts. They are verifying Twitter accounts through retweets and approval from other recognized accounts.
Twitter allows one to own a parody account but the bio should have a statement distinguishing it from the subject of the account.
People however do not read the bios and therefore end up being misinformed. Director of Digital Strategy Innovation and Diaspora Relations Dennis Itumbi says, “It has not being easy because sometimes people do not read the bios and therefore end up being misrepresented. We are therefore thankful to twitter for being supportive so far and verifying most of the accounts.”
