The Thai billionaire responsible for the globally popular energy drink Red Bull has died at the age of 89. Chaleo Yoovidhya founded T.C. Pharmaceuticals 30 years ago and the production of Red Bull started. In 1984, Chaleo partnered with an Austrian company and since then, Red Bull has become a global phenomenon.
Chaleo was ranked 205th on the Forbes list of world’s richest people, with his fortune estimated to be $5 billion. Despite all the trappings that come with publicity and wealth, Chaleo never gave a media interview for 30 years.
Red Bull has over the years ran a series of successful marketing strategies and campaigns. It has made use of Formula one for most of its advertisements. It has also penetrated the US market, thanks to the New York Red Bulls.
