A trio of armed robbers on Tuesday afternoon raided a church office in Nyeri Town and walked away Sh1 million richer.
The gangsters are said to have raided the office of African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) at around 3 pm.
According to witnesses, the three who were on a motorcycle fired several rounds in the air as they demanded the money which was stored in the main office.
Confirming the robbery, AIPCA Bishop Bernard Muthoga said only two staff members, a youth coordinator and a secretary were in the office at the time of the daylight robbery.
They were both unhurt during the ordeal
“They cooperated so they did not hurt them. They just took the money and left. We have reported the matter to police,” said Bishop Muthoga.
The stolen money was the church’s collections and donations from last Sunday which was yet to be banked.
Nyeri Central Assistant County Commissioner John Marete said investigations have been launched.
No arrests had been made at the time of going to press.
