Kenyatta University is set to build a Sh1 billion housing complex for its students, through a public-private partnership. 20 acres on its main campus have been set aside for this. The new hostels will accommodate 6,000 students.
The University will begin the search for an investor, through an international tender. Construction should start in coming weeks.

The hostels will be based on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BTO) model. The investor will collect rent for up to 20 years, and then transfer the facilities to the university administration.
Already, cabinet has approved the project and the tendering will be done on Monday next week.
KU becomes the first university to have their hostels built on a BOT model.

The university has experienced rapid expansion in the last few years. Some of their newest structures include a Sh1 billion library, 2 new hostels, a student center, a computer centre, a business incubation centre, School of Engineering building, amphitheater among others still under construction.
