Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has warned that security officers and government officials could face dismissal if they leak confidential government information to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking at St. Francis Mawego Catholic Church Parish in Karachuonyo constituency, Atwoli accused Gachagua of misusing the information he receives. He said such leaks could cost police officers their jobs.
Atwoli told government officers that they should stop providing intelligence reports to the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader, describing the practice as harmful to the county.
“Don’t give Gachagua information because he misuses that information, and he will cause people’s children in the police force, our young people, to be fired. We usually get information from the police, but we take it where it is supposed to go,” he said.
Atwoli said he also receives information from the police, but he uses it for the right and intended purpose. He warned that sharing confidential information in public forums endangers the lives of security officers.
“You don’t announce at a meeting, ‘Oh, I’ve been told by a certain police officer that a certain thing will happen.’ You are endangering the police officers, Gachagua. Stop that foolishness of yours,” he added.
The COTU boss, accompanied by KUPPET secretary general Akello Misori, also criticized Linda Mwanachi’s team led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. He said the group is too young to lead the country and accused them of misleading the public on issues that former prime minister Raila Odinga previously advocated for.
Atwoli further claimed that Sifuna and his team receive funding from an individual with the intention of dividing the Luhya community.
He said members of the Luhya community will host the Bukhungu Three meeting in December, where they will issue political declarations ahead of the 2027 election.
