Political activist and self-styled revolutionary Booker Ngesa Omole has continued to express his disappointment with the current state of affairs in the nation, reiterating his stand that Kenyans must return to the streets and continue pressuring the Kenya Kwanza administration.
While speaking to Citizen Digital, Omole, who is the current vice-chair of the Communist Party of Kenya, expressed his disappointment in the William Ruto administration, adding that despite widespread protests, Kenyans were yet to achieve the fruits of their activism.
“Kenyans wanted Ruto to address the rising cost of living, lower taxation, provide better health care and deal with the mess in the education sector. What Ruto did, instead, was an act of self-preservation,” he said.
“The changes the President did were to protect himself and his closest allies. He did not do what Kenyans asked of him. He did what he thought was best to protect his Presidency and save himself from a political collapse.”
Omole, a former candidate for the member of Parliament for Gem constituency, also espoused the ideals of his party, the Communist Party of Kenya.
“This party has always existed. Some of the greatest firebrands in this country belonged to the communist idea. From former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga to current Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hajj. But the previous regimes suppressed the movement, driving it underground, ” he said.
“But since 2019, the party revamped and came out of the shadows. Unlike all the other Kenyan political parties, which put the billionaire and his cronies first, this party actually puts the people first. It’s a people-driven party.”
The outspoken activist, who was severally arrested and held in various police stations at the height of the nationwide anti-government protests, also expressed that the only language politicians understand is that of the streets.
“I was abducted several times during the protests and taken allover the city, driven from police station to police station. I was even arrested from a flight, due to my involvement in the anti-government protests,” he said.
“But I still insist, the only language the big men at the top of the leadership food chain understand is that of the streets. That’s why Kenyans have to regroup and hit the streets once again because, clearly, William Ruto has not listened to Kenyans and has, instead, teamed up with Raila Odinga to further protect the ruling class. ”
Speaking on his signature look, which sees him sport a communist-esque hat and a striking beard, Omole says that, as a revolutionary and a political agitator, he had to seek inspiration from the people who began the movements all across Africa and the world.
“Some say I look like Samoa Machel, and that’s true. I draw my inspiration from such historical figures. From Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, Thomas Sankara, Fidel Castro, Ché Guevara,” he said.
“These great men had a particular look about them. If you saw them on a photo, you’d immediately recognise them. That’s why my look is perculair, just like theirs.”
He added: “But one must do more than just dress like his heroes. You must have it in your heart to be like them, act like them, have their courage and valor, follow in their paths and actualize the dreams they had.”
Omole also spoke on youthful leaders in Kenya, especially Kasmuel McOure and Morara Kebaso, both of whom emerged during the anti-government protests and were widely embraced by the people for their brilliance and galvanising power.
“People say Kasmuel McOure made mistakes. But he’s a very brilliant and smart young man. He’s also very well-spoken and well-dressed. I admire his work and even though he may stumble, I feel like he’s still learning the ropes and he needs to be supported, not bashed,” he said.
” Anytime I attack Kasmuel, I feel bad, because that’s what the enemy wants. He wants us to be divided and forget the goal. Kasmuel is still new in the game and he may make mistakes along the way, however, if his intentions are clear, then Kenyans will ultimately follow along. ”
On Morara Kebaso, he said,” I admire him alot. He saw an opportunity and ran with it. He saw a gap and decided to fill it and now, everyone appreciates the vampire diaries. ”
He added,” What I particularly like about him is the fact that he decided to consolidate his activism and turn it into a political engine, complete with a team and an office. If we are to change this country, we must organise politically and even merge our political parties just like they also do.”
Omole also bashed the Rigathi Gachagua impeachment, terming it a distraction and an unnecessary untertaking by lawmakers.
“Kenyans said, ‘Kufa Dereva, Kufa Makanga’. Actually, some added, ‘Kufa dereva, Kufa Makanga na abiria wake’. President William Ruto should exit alongside his depuyy Gachagua. Also, Kenyans want all these MPs to go home too, and also, the hired mechanic trying to keep the bus running, Mr. Raila Amolo Odinga.”
