Controversy Mar Kisima Awards With Massive Walkouts And Artistes’ Snub

The Kisima awards was finally held on Friday at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre. The awards ceremony has been full of controversy ever since the list of nominees was announced. Many of those nominated pulled out, with the eventual artiste of the year Daddy Owen coming close to pulling out. He however promised to give Sh 1 million of his award money to Denno and the other one million to charity. 

Most of those nominated snubbed the event. The only winners present were:Daddy Owen, Nameless, Nonini and Otieno Aloka of the Kanunga Eteko fame. Camp Mulla, P-Unit, Avril, Wyre, Jose Chameleone and Sauti Sol, failed to show up, though they emerged as winners in their categories. 

The event was characterized by massive walkouts by the fans who had paid Sh 2000 to attend. Some of them cited ‘too many performances’ by relatively unknown upcoming artistes. 

Some of the artistes who had declined their nominations included: Size 8, DNA and cannibal.
