A court in Eldoret has sentenced a man to 60 years in prison after he was found guilty of rape and infecting a minor with HIV/AIDS.
41-year-old Vincent Yabwetsa Handa committed the offence between February 20 and October 12, 2016, at his home at Kambiyu, Uasin Gishu county.
Witnesses testified that the accused gave his 9-year-old victim money after the act and warned her against telling anyone.
Eldoret Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa sentenced the accused on Wednesday.
Obulutsa sentenced Handa to 30 years in jail for the first offence of defilement and another 30 years for infecting her with HIV/AIDS.
He will serve the two terms concurrently.
