A certain Kenyan on Twitter has actually compared Sauti Sol to ‘Lamba Lolo’ hitmakers Ethic. SMH…Hamnanga heshima nyinyi.
Like one tweep aptly put it, “Comparing Sauti Sol with Ethic is like comparing Miguna Miguna’s English with that of Waititu. Pure nonsense.”
While there really shouldn’t be a debate about the two music acts, Kenyans on Twitter have come out in numbers to express their shock at the outrageous comparison.
This is after a tweep – Sir. Khana@sakanasaoli16 – tweeted: “Forget Khaligraph or Kristoff or Naiboi even… Heck even sauti sol, these ethic boys are just changing the scene. And pardon me if I’m wrong, they pull a crowd that will go to the edge to support them. And that will define them.”
He further argues that: “they[Sauti Sol] struggled to build sth in a decade and the sensational Ethic are effortlessly getting it done.”
For the better part of Thursday, Sauti Sol wasa trending topic as Kenyans jumped to their defense, demanding respect for the MTV Africa Award winners. Here are some sampled reactions:
Forget khaligraph or Kristoff or Naiboi even… Heck even sauti sol, these ethic boys are just changing the scene.
And pardon me if I’m wrong, they pull a crowd that will go to the edge to support them. And that will define them ?

I’ve never rated them as highly as you’d want to but fact is, they struggled to build sth in a decade and the sensational Ethic are effortlessly getting it done
— Sir. Khana (@sakanasaoli16) June 20, 2019
Yes, struggled. Money and numbers. In the end that’s what it all sums up to in the industry.
I mean, all their recent hits have had to feature west African acts to gain some traction and plus their hit, short and sweet, copied a page from my odi boys.
See where I’m going???— Sir. Khana (@sakanasaoli16) June 20, 2019
Comparing Sauti Sol with Ethic is why we end up with bad leaders and embrace mediocrity in Kenya. We lack the capacity to separate wheat from chaff.
