Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives in Kisumu have arrested a Chief for receiving a Ksh7,700 bribe.
Mary Odhiambo Andhoga, the Chief of Kisumu West location, allegedly received the bribe to write a succession letter to a resident. She is alleged to have demanded the bribe to ‘facilitate’ her to write the confirmation letter from a complainant who needed it for a family land succession matter.
EACC’s Western and Nyanza Region Boss Ignatius Wekesa said anti-graft detectives laid a trap and arrested the chief at her home in Kokulo village in Seme Sub-County on Wednesday.
This after the complainant reported to EACC how the administrator had declined to sign a form which had been issued by the lands department until she was given a Ksh.2,200 bribe to complete it.
According to Wekesa, Ms Odhiambo demanded a further Ksh.5,500 to write a confirmation letter to help the complainant’s family process a land transfer.
The complainant is said to have approached EACC after several visits to the office of the Chief bore no fruit.
Wekesa said the suspect will be arraigned once investigations are complete. She is currently out on a Ksh.50,000 police bond.
