Igathe Surprised by the Awful Condition of City Hall Offices

Used to working in cushy offices in the private sector, Nairobi deputy governor Polycarp Igathe could not believe his eyes when he stepped into City Hall.

On Tuesday, Igathe went on a tour of City Hall offices and expressed his dismay from what he witnessed. Mr Igathe visited the rates, accounts, audit, human resource and urban planning offices, all based at the City Hall building.

From dilapidated walls to worn out tiles, the new deputy governor wondered how staff managed to work in such conditions.

“How do you work in a place like this? You know what to do. There should be proper windows and good chairs for people to use. We will have to renovate all these,” he said in one of the offices.

Still on his tour, he happened to find a portrait of the outgoing governor Evans Kidero in one office and simply couldn’t let it slide.

“Don’t you know who your governor is?” he asked the workers.

Igathe was taken around by outgoing Public Service Management executive Mercy Kamau and chief officer Leboo ole Morintat.
