A Technical University of Kenya graduate has resorted to an unorthodox means of job application after trying to look for work for six months with little success.
Gilbert Mutai has been standing by busy road sides in Nairobi holding a placard on which his credentials and contacts are scribbled.
The 25-year old was on Thursday morning spotted along Muthaiga road where he held his placard for almost four hours.
The placard reads: “I have Bsc Electrical Engineering and Diploma in Project Management. Please help I need a job, CV with me 0722750068”.
Gilbert Mutai graduated from the Technical University of Kenya in December last year. He has also completed the first two modules in a Project Management diploma course offered by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), something he hoped would make him more attractive to employers.
Mutai, a Kawangware resident has been holding the placard since Monday when he first camped along Dennis Pritt road.
Gilbert is Kenya’s first placard job seeker, a trend that is slowly catching on among desperate job seekers in South Africa and Nigeria.
Last month a placard job seeker in Lagos, Nigeria landed a job after she was invited for a meet up by Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo.
