Speaking during a press address on Tuesday, Gachagua said Ruto’s net worth has surged since he took office in 2022, a development he linked to efforts to tighten his grip on key state assets.
Gachagua argued that Ruto has turned government operations into a one-stop arrangement where he can carry out what he described as a looting spree, leaving the country and its people worse off.
“Over the last 4 years William Ruto has captured the state. He has focused on centralizing control of independent constitutional commissions, state entities, public sector procurement, and the sale of strategic national assets. All these measures are aimed at achieving the objective of enriching himself at the expense of 55 million Kenyans,” Gachagua said.
“He has achieved the milestone of being certified as a US Dollar billionaire in a four-year record courtesy of looting Kenyan public coffers.”
The DCP leader also blamed President Ruto for creating conditions that, in his view, allow corruption to flourish, adding that millions of shillings leak from public coffers every day.
He said Ruto has walked back the promises he made to Kenyans and delivered what he described as a shameful record marked by graft and impunity.
“This regime on a borrowing spree borrows an average of Ksh.3.5 billion daily and steals Ksh.3 billion daily. This government steals an average of Ksh.125 million per hour and Ksh.2 million from every minute from Kenyans,” he claimed.
“He promised to build 250,000 houses every year. However, four years later, Mr. Ruto has turned the plan into a conduit for stealing public land and positioning himself as the sole supplier of construction materials.”
Gachagua also alleged that Ruto has expanded his assets, pointing in particular to Sidian Bank. He said the bank’s growth has come from deposits made by state institutions and the Nairobi County Government.
“Sidian is valued at Ksh.95 billion, comprising Ksh.74 billion in customer deposit and a reported Ksh.1.7 billion net profit in the year ending 2025. Notice the sudden change in fortune since it had Ksh.42 billion in assets in 2022 and Ksh.30 billion in customer deposits. Since William Ruto bought it, you can see the transformation,” Gachagua claimed.
Gachagua blamed President Ruto for what he described as failed government programmes, including the Hustler Fund, affordable housing initiatives, and the Social Health Authority (SHA).
He also said Ruto’s administration has underperformed in key sectors such as education, health, and security, adding that Ruto’s leadership has gone “rogue” and suffered from persistent incompetence.
Gachagua warned that Ruto’s record will face close scrutiny ahead of the 2027 General Election. He urged the president to seek re-election on the basis of results rather than by making another round of grand promises.
