Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi urged Siaya County residents to vote out elected leaders who fail to drive local development.
Wandayi argued that the county cannot afford “trial and error” politicians who drag the region backward while the rest of the nation moves forward.
He made the remarks on Saturday in Karapul, on the outskirts of Siaya town, during the funeral of Mzee Esau Oyiro Ogeya.
“Politics is the foundation for development, and we cannot afford the trial-and-error games,” he said, promising to lead the push to send underperforming leaders home in the next general election.
Turning to development, Wandayi noted that the government allocated KSh 2.2 billion for rural electrification in Siaya County. This funding will bring electricity to more than 25 villages across the area.
He urged the public to back President William Ruto’s broad-based government, pointing out that national authorities have launched several other development projects across various economic sectors.
“We had roads that had stagnated for years, and now they are being tarmacked,” he said, adding, “We also had the county referral hospital in bad condition, and now it is being refurbished and expanded to level five status by the national government.”
