DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua has instructed musicians from the Mount Kenya region to compose and produce songs addressing President William Ruto’s alleged persecution of the community.
Speaking on Thursday, July 23, during a requiem mass for two victims of the Ol Kalou skirmishes, Gachagua urged artists to highlight the community’s plight and guide voters on how to respond in next year’s elections, noting that the region historically turns to music during times of political stress.
“We Shall Speak Through Songs”, Gachagua Says
“I want songs in the Mountain to be written about William Ruto and what he has done to our community. We shall speak through songs the way we normally do when we are under stress and threat as a community,” Gachagua said.
“You must come up with strong songs with the message that the community is under siege, attack, and persecution by William Ruto, and you must tell the people what they must do next year.”
Gachagua Frames 2027 as a “Retaliatory Vote”
The former Deputy President advised members of the Mount Kenya community to avoid political rhetoric and public protests, encouraging them instead to focus on their daily lives while preparing for the 2027 polls.
He suggested that whenever citizens feel angry, they should listen to the upcoming songs rather than react to provocations, framing DCP as the region’s main political vehicle and predicting a historic election outcome.
“We will cast a retaliatory vote next year. A vote to send people not home, not to elect anyone, and that kind of vote is very sweet,” he declared.
While offering condolences to the families of James Muigai and Zachariah Gakinya, Gachagua vowed that officers responsible for their fatal shootings would face justice under a future administration.
He warned police that his team is documenting all instances of brutality and extra-judicial killings to ensure full accountability.
