President William Ruto assured Kenyans that the country will enjoy peace throughout the 2027 General Election and its aftermath.
During a speech in Busia on Sunday, he addressed growing fears that political violence might spark broader chaos.
“Irrespective of who we are, our persuasion, our political leaning, whatever it’s that we believe in, we must have a peaceful nation. I want to assure you as the people of Kenya that we will have peaceful elections next year,” Ruto said.
He pointed out that elections are temporary events, urging citizens not to ruin the nation over something that happens only once every few years.
Reflecting on the 2024 Gen Z protests, Ruto noted that the unrest stirred confusion and allowed political thugs to emerge. However, he pledged to crack down on lawlessness.
“We were lenient with those who were demonstrating, causing chaos, looting, and burning property because we said they are our children. But we’ve seen how damaging that is. They have now graduated from protesters to goons. We have vowed to deal with all goons,” Ruto said.
He promised that his administration will safeguard national stability and guarantee a peaceful campaign environment free from intimidation.
