The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially launched an online portal allowing candidates to access, download, and verify their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) e-certificates.

The system streamlines access to academic records, minimizes physical paperwork, and provides instant verification for employers, universities, and other institutions.

1. Account Creation and Login

  • Head to the official portal at ecertificate.knec.ac.ke.

  • Click Register and choose the Applicant (Student/Alumni) account option.

  • Input your email address to receive a One-Time Password (OTP) valid for 10 minutes.

  • Note: Existing account holders can log in using their registered email and a newly requested OTP.

2. Profile Setup

  • After logging in, update your profile with your official full name, citizenship status, date of birth, phone number, and National ID number.

  • The system checks your identity against national registration databases to confirm your details.

3. Requesting Your Certificate

  • Select Generate e-Certificate on your account dashboard.

  • Input your KCSE index number, the exam type, and the year of sitting (covers examinations written between 1989 and 2025).

4. Payment & Download

  • Upon successful automated validation of your examination details, you will be directed to pay the Ksh 1,500 processing fee via mobile money (M-Pesa) or integrated online payment channels.

  • Once payment settles, your digital KCSE certificate will generate instantly for download as a PDF.

Third-Party Verification & Sharing

The platform allows graduates to share verified academic credentials directly with prospective employers, higher education institutions, or official agencies:

  • Navigate to the Verify & Send Report option on the dashboard.

  • Upload your generated e-certificate PDF and enter the recipient’s contact information (such as an institutional email address).

  • The system generates and sends an official verification report straight to the recipient.
