The 12-month internships are part of a broader national strategy to equip young professionals with hands-on experience while speeding up the rollout of affordable housing projects across the country.
In a public notice, the State Department for Housing and Urban Development invited applications from graduates in fields including architecture, civil engineering, environmental science, law, ICT, digital marketing, and several others.
Successful interns will receive a monthly stipend, with the amount set by the government, as they contribute to one of Kenya’s flagship development initiatives.
“The internship programme is designed to offer graduates real-world experience across AHP and marketing project sites across the country, while also nurturing the next generation of professionals in housing and urban development,” the statement read in part.
Among the key allocations in the internship program, 300 positions have been reserved for architecture graduates, while 250 slots are earmarked for those in construction management. Additionally, the government has allocated 200 opportunities each to professionals in civil, mechanical, electrical, structural engineering, and quantity surveying.
The programme also includes 150 slots each for environmental practitioners and communication/branding specialists, alongside 150 openings for urban and regional planning. Health and safety will get 180 slots, social development 165, while land surveying/geospatial science and landscape architecture will each receive 100 positions.
Graduates in legal studies, financial analysis, economics, ICT, and human resources will also benefit, with opportunities ranging from 20 to 60 slots per discipline.
To qualify, applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in one of the listed fields from a recognized institution, have graduated in 2018 or later, and possess solid computer skills.
Interns selected under the Affordable Housing Programme will take on key responsibilities, including assisting professional teams in the rollout of housing projects, documenting the skills and experiences gained, and engaging in structured mentorship sessions.
“This is not only a chance to serve the country but also to gain valuable work experience in a dynamic and critical sector,” the State Department for Housing and Urban Development stated.
After completing the programme, interns will receive an official certificate from the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, potentially boosting their employment prospects in both public and private sectors.
All applications must be submitted online via the Public Service Commission’s job portal at www.publicservice.go.ke or www.psckjobs.go.ke by September 6, 2025.
