Hairdresser in court for attacking mandazi vendor with broken bottle over Sh100 mandazi debt

May 5, 2023

A salonist used in Mathare, Nairobi has been charged in court for allegedly assaulting another woman over a Sh100 debt.

Sharon Awuor was accused of assaulting Penina Mbiti by hitting her with a broken bottle, causing her bodily harm.

Police told the court that the accused attacked Mbiti, a tea and mandazi vendor, on  April 06, 2023, after she demanded a debt of Sh100 that Awuor owed her.

A police report indicates that when Mbiti went to Awuor’s place of work to demand the money, Awuor told her that they go outside where she promised to pay but she instead attacked her with a broken bottle on her left side cheek leading to severe bleeding.

Mbiti reported the attack at Central police station and was referred to the Nairobi City Council health centre where she was treated and discharged.

“She was later issued with a P3 form and took it to a police surgeon where it was filled by Dr Kamau and a copy of it was returned to the Central police station. The accused was later on arrested pending her arraignment in court today,” police reported.

Appearing before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina on Monday, the accused denied assault charges.

The magistrate released the suspect on a cash bail of Sh10,000 with one surety. The case will be mentioned on May 04.
