A mutura vendor on Sunday reportedly killed one of his customers over Sh10 debt.
According to the Nation, the incident occurred at around 2 am outside a nightclub in Coro estate, Maragua town, Murang’a county.
Maragua Assistant County Commissioner Joshua Okello said the mutura seller and the 20-year-old victim got into a heated argument before the suspect reached for a knife.
“The information we have is that the two had an argument that resulted in the mútura seller reaching out for his knife and attacked the man,” he said.
Mr Okello added that irate locals pounced on the suspect before the police came to his rescue.
“Irate residents responded by attacking the assailant and were on the verge of lynching him when police arrived and rescued him,” he said.
The victim was pronounced dead at Maragua Level Four hospital while the suspect was hospitalised under police guard.
“It was an unfortunate death…it was not deserved at all and we are investigating the incident. We are also reviewing the environment under which the incident occurred and if the nightclub had played any part,” Okello said.
