Matiang’i Facing Two Charges Over Alleged Police Raid

March 8, 2023

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) will prefer two charges against former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i for alleging that police raided his home on February 9.

According to a cautionary charge sheet by the DCI, Matiang’i is to be charged with conspiracy to commit a felony.

He is accused of attempting to cause panic, chaos or violence among Kenyans.

“Between 8th February and 9th February 2023 at Karen Ngong View Estate within Nairobi, with intent to cause panic, chaos or violence among citizens of the Republic of Kenya jointly with another published in the media that your house had been raided by a battalion or Garisson of Police Officers intending to arrest you a fact you knew to be false,” the charge sheet read in part.

The former Education Minister is facing a second charge; publication of false information contrary to section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes.

The charge sheet was prepared by Chief Inspector of Police attached to the Investigations Bureau of DCI Headquaters Maurice Shiraho.

This was hours after Matiang’i honoured summons by the Directorate.
