Court Gives Sakaja, Matatu Owners Ultimatum to Resolve Green Park Stand-off

March 8, 2023

The High Court in Nairobi has given Governor Johnson Sakaja and owners of upcountry matatus 14 days to resolve a dispute over the relocation of matatus to Green Park terminus.

Justice Hedwig Ong’undi ordered the two parties to convene a meeting and file a report in court on the outcome of the meeting before March 20.

The court also ordered maintenance of the status quo pending the outcome of the out-of-court settlement.

Justice Ong’undi issued the directives after Sakaja appeared in court two months ago and explained his willingness to settle the matter out of court.

“From what I am hearing, one of the parties is not presenting the true picture on the ground and this court cannot supervise the movement of buses and matatus in town. The governor appeared in this court and expressed his willingness to settle this matter. I will therefore not allow the unwilling party or parties to drag this matter any further,” Justice Ong’undi said.
