Police officers in Kitengela have launched a manhunt for two suspects who drilled a hole through a phone shop in Kitengela and made away with goods worth Sh700,000.
CCTV footage obtained from the shop showed the heist took place on the night of January 12.
Two smartly dressed men are seen entering the main shop area from the backside at 5.08 am. The footage shows the suspects leaving at 6.20 am with phones and accessories.
Police reports indicate that the two men booked two rooms in a lodging adjacent to the phone shop at around 4 pm last Thursday.
Risper Kawira, a shop attendant, said she reported to work Friday morning and found the shop messy and shelves emptied.
“It was a premeditated crime. I lost new phone handsets, credit cards, EarPods and cash,” the owner of the shop said.
The lodging’s caretaker, Cornelius Nzioka, said one of the suspects was a frequent client who often booked the room adjacent to the shop.
“One of the suspects was a regular customer and always preferred room 106, which is adjacent to the phone shop,” he recalled.
Nzioka, 51, said they later discovered that the suspects booked the rooms using fake identification details. The mobile phone numbers they provided are out of service.
The heist was booked at Kitengela police station under OB number 22/13/01/2023.
