Deputy President William Ruto has pledged to give sex workers in Mtito Andei a financial boost of Sh1 million.
The sex workers had appealed to the DP for help through the ‘Hustlers Empowerment Fund’ to allow them to pursue legit business ventures.
On Monday, Ruto asked the workers to organize themselves into a Sacco.
He said he would deposit Sh1 million into the Sacco to help the sex workers realize their dream of getting into business.
DP Ruto also promised to keep tabs and ensure their new venture thrives.
During his tour of Mtito Andei, the deputy president continued to tout his bottom-up economic model, saying it speaks the language of the common mwananchi.
According to Ruto, the model focuses on uplifting the lives of citizens, especially low-income earners, in a manner that gradually propels them to better economic scales.
