Police Constable Shoots Himself Dead after Disagreement With Wife

July 15, 2019

A police officer based at Kaloleni Police Station in Kilifi yesterday took his own life following an alleged quarrel with his wife.

Constable Kelvin Kipkemoi reportedly shot himself dead in the morning at around 5.30am after finishing his night shift.

Confirming the suicide, Kilifi County Police Commander Patrick Okeri said Mr Kipkemoi shot himself inside a temporary structure that police officers who are on night shift use for easy access to the station.

The house is located about 70 metres away from the police report office.

“The officer completed his shift without any problem and when he proceeded to his house, a shot was heard by his colleague who found him dead after they went to check what had happened,” said Mr Okeri.

A colleague of the deceased, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Kipkemoi’s wife had visited him at the house.

“They had some argument the previous night,” Daily Nation quotes the officer who added that Mr Kipkemoi married the woman recently.

“We understand there could be family issues, but let us do our investigations before we make any conclusions,” said Mr Okeri.

The commander urged officers in the county to open up to their friends and relatives about problems they may be facing.

“There are issues that one cannot handle and they need to be addressed by friends and relatives. I urge my officers to open up on their problems so that we can tackle them together,” said Okeri.
