A policeman took his own life on Wednesday in Nairobi’s Dandora area. Constable Moses Maina Gichuki of Lokorio police station, Turkana County was on annual leave in his house at the time of the incident.
The officer’s wife found his body dangling on a piece of clothing in the bathroom on Wednesday night.
Nairobi Police Commander Philip Ndolo confirmed the incident saying the motive of the suicide is not known. “We are yet to find out why he ended his life but our officers have started investigations,” he said.
The incident comes two weeks after two police officers committed suicide in Mandera and Tala. More than a dozen officers have reportedly committed in three months.
Inspector General of police Hilary Mutyambai has since rolled out a Psycho-Education counseling programme within the service. He said the exercise will first target those in Nairobi command before it is rolled to other counties.
