In true Kenyan style, an illegally constructed building associated with a politician has been completed.
In August last year, Nairobi governor Mike Sonko leaked a phone conversation between him and his Kiambu counterpart Ferdinand Waititu. The dramatic conversation involved Waititu urging Sonko to ‘release’ his wife.
Waititu’s wife had been arrested by Nairobi county enforcement team, for constructing an 9 storey building in the CBD without necessary approvals.
Sonko promised to release his colleague’s wife, but refused to release the others arrested alongside her.
His word however didn’t amount to much, as she was eventually arraigned in court.
That was the last we heard of the issue, but it has now emerged that the building in question continued to be constructed, and is now complete.
Pictures have been making rounds on Twitter, with Kenyans doubting the sincerity of the war on graft.
Watiti's skyscraper in Nairobi's CBD is almost complete almost 2 years after being "gafana". The one that had issues with the County of Nairobi. Politics is a lucrative career in Kenya. 😂 pic.twitter.com/JutWVnky8k
