A priest who was arrested over the gang rape of a woman in Nyeri has been arraigned in Court.
The suspect, Joseph Karuga Muraguri, appeared before Nyeri Resident Magistrate Maisi Chesang on Tuesday but he did not take a plea.
Nuru Abdullahi, the case investigating officer, requested the court to grant detectives five days to conclude investigations into the case. The Officer told the Court that he believed the priest was connected to the gangrape and termed the case “sensitive”.
He told the court that the woman was gang-raped at Ruring’u estate in the outskirts of Nyeri town on January 12.
Magistrate Maisi Chesang allowed police to hold the suspect for two days.
The Nyeri court ordered Joseph Karuga be detained until Thursday when he will take plea.
The case will continue on Thursday when the court will determine whether to release the suspect on bond.
