CS Matiang’i: ‘Disco Matanga’ No Longer a Cultural Event

January 9, 2019

That man Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has done it again!

The firebrand Cabinet Secretary has this time banned night-mourning events popularly known as “Disco Matanga” in the Coastal region. He declared that Disco Matangas are no longer cultural events as they have become a haven for notorious criminals in Kilifi.

The tough-talking CS said Disco Matangas must end by 11 pm.

He spoke when he visited David Kahindi, a chief who was attacked when he tried to stop one such event in his Shariani area in Kilifi. The administrator is recuperating at Jocham Hospital in Mombasa after he sustained injuries on the head and broken limbs.

Matiang’i noted that the government has records that show drugs are also sold and peddled in such events. He added that underage girls have also become vulnerable to sex crimes such as rape.

“This thing called Disco Matanga is no longer a cultural event. Criminals are taking advantage to commit a felony,” he said.

“Cases of early pregnancy in Kilifi are associated with this nonsense called Disco Matanga. We have agreed today and informed the Kilifi county commissioner and his county security team that all these must end by 11 pm,” said Matiang’i.

He further warned that, “I want to tell them that we are absolutely ready and we are coming for you. We will intensify measures and we must arrest those who attacked our chief and bring them before the court of law.”

“We will not compete with thugs and we will not surrender this country to criminals. The county commissioner will find those who attacked the chief and we will bring them to justice. We are going to look for them wherever they are, even under the bed, until they are found.”

The CS also warned that anyone found operating a disco after 11 pm will be arrested.
