Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen wants Jubilee to borrow a leaf from the ODM Party amid ongoing wrangles within the ruling party.
The Senate Majority Leader on Tuesday expressed his admiration for the Raila Odinga-led party, noting that it is better managed and its leadership more disciplined.
“I admire the management of ODM despite all the challenges they have,” said Murkomen during a breakfast interview on Citizen TV.
Murkomen praised the opposition outfit ODM for the manner in which it managed the political truce between its leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru.
“Even during the handshake, the former Prime Minister called his party members and explained to them,” he said.
Murkomen said he admired the fact that ODM has a structured model of management and decision-making through its organs and communication as a unit.
“You will always hear the ODM National Executive Council has said this organ has decided that. They are the second largest party as ours [Jubilee party] and has survived for 10 years, and us only five. We need to learn something from them,” he said.
Murkomen’s remarks come in the wake of new calls for elections in the party that saw Vice Chair David Murathe resign.
A section of Rift Valley Leaders now wants Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju to resign as well.
Murkomen noted that there is a need for the partnership between the President and Raila to work so that interactions between the members of the two parties do not attract adverse consequences.
“We don’t want to people like Aisha Jumwa being punished for relating with the deputy president yet we are saying we need to have handshake working,” he said.
He asserted that the partnership must create a favourable political environment.
