A 36-year-old man who sexually abused three boys in Makengi, Embu County, has been sentenced to rot in jail.
Senior Resident Magistrate Vincent Nyakundi sentenced Paul Muriithi Karuga to 35 years in jail for each of the three counts. The sentences, amounting to 105 years, will run concurrently.
The sex pest was charged that on subsequent dates between May 20 and May 22, 2017, at Kanjau village in Makengi, Embu County, he intentionally and unlawfully sexually assaulted three boys; two aged 9 and the other 12.
Karuga also faced three alternative charges for an indecent act with the minors.
The Court was told that on the first day, the suspect waylaid the first boy who was coming from church and asked him to engage in “sex” but the boy fled.
The accused then reportedly ran after the boy and caught him, carried him on his shoulders and took him to a bush where he sodomized him.
The next day, the suspect was said to have ambushed two brothers who had been sent to the shop by their grandmother in the evening, snatched away their torch and, as one escaped, he grabbed the other and sexually abused him.
The following day, while commandeering a donkey cart, Muriithi met the third victim who was also headed to the shop and asked him to climb onto the cart. The accused then drove him into the forest and assaulted him.
The boys reported the incidents to their parents who then forwarded the matter to the Manyatta Police Station.
The prosecution presented five witnesses, including the three boys.
Magistrate Nyakundi said the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the suspect was guilty of all the charges.
