Flying Squad Officers Wednesday gunned down four suspected thugs in Parklands, Nairobi in a botched robbery.
Confirming the incident, new Flying Squad boss Musa Yego said the suspects were targeting a construction site which was to receive some cash when his officers received a tip-off and tracked the suspects.
The four were gunned down along General Mathenge drive. Police recovered two pairs of Administration Police uniform, three pistols, two berets, seven rounds of ammunition and a Toyota station wagon which they were driving.
The bullet-riddled car had at least three different number plates.
Police believe one of the slain suspects was an Administration Police officer. Their identities could not be established by press time as they did not have identification documents on them.
The four are believed to be part of a gang that preys on people moving into and out of banking halls and ATMs.
A special team of officers was established last month to track down the gang members who are said to have taken control of the Nairobi CBD with their criminal activities.
